Cross stitch on iPhone and iPad

Pattern Keeper for iPhone and iPad

Short answer: there is no iPhone or iPad version yet. Pattern Keeper runs on Android only. Its own website says the iOS version is in early development and gives no release date. Checked on 24 October 2026.

So if you stitch from PDF charts on an iPhone or iPad, you need something else for now. Here is what people use, and a free check that tells you if your chart will work.

How to stitch a PDF pattern on iPad or iPhone

  1. Save the PDF from the shop email or download page to the Files app.
  2. Open StitchGrid and import the PDF from Files.
  3. Check the grid. The blue lines must sit on the printed grid. Nudge them if needed, then confirm.
  4. Tap a color in the key. Every stitch of that thread still to do lights up, with a live count.
  5. Tap cells as you stitch, or drag across a run to mark it in one stroke. Progress saves at once.

Questions

Is there an official Pattern Keeper app for iPhone?

No. The Pattern Keeper website says an iOS version is planned and in early development. There is no date and no test version yet.

Will my Pattern Keeper compatible PDFs work in StitchGrid?

Charts sold as Pattern Keeper compatible are made in pattern software, and that is the kind StitchGrid reads best. It also reads charts saved as pictures, and scanned charts for marking stitches. Run the check above to be sure.

Is it a subscription?

No. StitchGrid is $14.99 once. No in-app purchases, no ads, no account.

Does it need the internet?

No. Your charts and progress stay on your device. There is no server.

iPhone or iPad?

Both, on iOS 16 or later. It is built iPad first, and the iPhone version does everything for stitching on the go.

Multi-page charts?

Yes. Full size charts and magnified section pages both work, with a page switcher while you stitch.

Pattern Keeper is an Android app by another developer, and this site has no connection to it. StitchGrid is made by Karolis Valatka, who wrote this page. Questions or a chart that will not import: info@kv-software.com.
